Rides to VA appointments from Conyers and Covington

Price Guard Rideshare drives veterans from Conyers, Covington and the surrounding counties to VA appointments, including the Joseph Maxwell Cleland Atlanta VA Medical Center on Clairmont Road in Decatur and VA clinics around metro Atlanta. The fare is agreed before the ride, and the driver can hold the car for up to an hour or come back for the trip home. Veterans and serving military get 10% off the trip fare on every ride. Trips are by appointment, arranged at least three hours before the pickup. We are a private taxi service: we are not a VA contracted provider and we do not bill the VA.

These rides are by appointment. Arrange the trip at least 3 hours before the pickup, and the day before for a morning appointment. There is one car and one driver, so booking ahead is what lets us promise your time. Book a day ahead and 10% comes off the trip fare.

A VA appointment is a long morning. The drive to Decatur is the easy part; the waiting is what makes people miss appointments or ask somebody to take a day off work. This is an ordinary taxi booking, priced before you travel, with the option of the driver waiting rather than you finding a second ride home.

What we do

The Atlanta VA Medical Center in Decatur

The Cleland VA on Clairmont Road is a regular run for us from both Conyers and Covington. Book it ahead and the car is committed to your appointment time.

VA clinics around the metro area

Outpatient clinic appointments anywhere we drive, quoted from your address before you book.

The driver waits up to an hour, or comes back

VA appointments run long and unpredictably. He will hold the car for up to an hour, with the first 5 minutes free and $0.35 a minute after that, and for anything longer he drops you and comes back for the trip home. Either way it is arranged when you book rather than worked out in the car park.

Early appointments

A 7am slot in Decatur means leaving Conyers before six. Booked in advance, that is a normal trip for us, priced the same as any other.

Pharmacy stops on the way home

Ask when you book and we will build the stop into the trip rather than surprising you with it on the bill.

The same driver each time

One owner driver in one car, so a repeated appointment means somebody who already knows the run and the entrance you use.

10% off, every ride

Veterans and serving military get 10% off the trip fare on every trip they take with us, not only the first. Tick the box when you book. Your first ride is 15% off, and you always get whichever discount is worth more.

What we do not do

Worth reading before you book, because the wrong service on the day of an appointment is worse than no service at all.

  • We do not bill the VA and we are not a VA contracted transportation provider. You book us and you pay us directly, the same as any other taxi.
  • The VA runs its own travel programs, including mileage reimbursement and a shuttle service for some veterans. Ask your VA patient advocate whether you qualify before you pay for a ride: if the VA can take you, take the VA.
  • No wheelchair, lift, ramp, stretcher or oxygen, and no care of any kind. The passenger needs to be able to get in and out of a sedan. A cane or a folding walker goes in the trunk.
  • We cannot go into the appointment with you or handle anything medical. The driver waits with the car.
  • Rides at no notice. VA trips are by appointment and need arranging at least three hours before the pickup, and the day before is better.

Wait, or come back for you?

The first few minutes of waiting are free, the rest is charged by the minute, and the longest we will hold the car is an hour. A VA appointment often runs longer than that, so the usual answer here is that the driver comes back. Here is what each option actually costs. The first 5 minutes are free, and after that waiting is $0.35 a minute ($21.00 an hour), billed on the minutes actually waited and never part of the trip fare. The full 60 minutes comes to $19.25, and a stop short enough to be back in five minutes costs nothing at all.

A second trip of about 24 miles costs $60.58. Every wait we will do costs less than that, so if the stop fits inside 60 minutes, waiting is the cheaper answer. You decide when you book and you can change your mind on the day: nobody is charged for waiting that was not agreed.

What it costs

Everything here runs on our ordinary meter: $2.50 to start and $2.40 a mile, with a $10.00 minimum. No surge pricing, no night rate and no holiday rate.

Questions

Do you drive veterans to the Atlanta VA Medical Center?

Yes. The Cleland Atlanta VA on Clairmont Road in Decatur is a run we drive from Conyers and Covington, booked in advance and priced before you travel.

How far ahead do I need to book a VA trip?

At least three hours before the pickup, and for an early appointment in Decatur the day before is much better. These are appointment bookings, not on demand rides. Booking a day ahead also takes 10% off the trip fare.

Does the VA pay for this?

Not through us. We are not a VA contracted provider and we do not bill the VA, so you pay us directly. The VA does have its own travel programs and mileage reimbursement for veterans who qualify, so ask your patient advocate first: if they can cover your trip, use that.

How much is a ride from Conyers to the Atlanta VA?

It runs on our normal meter, $2.50 to start and $2.40 a mile, and the table on this page shows the current estimate from Conyers and from Covington. You get the exact number before you book, and it does not change afterwards.

Will the driver wait while I am in my appointment?

For up to an hour, yes. The first 5 minutes are free and the rest is $0.35 a minute, so a 40 minute wait is $12.25. He does not wait longer than an hour, and a VA appointment often runs longer than that, so the usual arrangement is that he drops you and comes back for you. Book the return when you book the outbound trip and it is already arranged.

Can you take me to an early appointment?

Yes. Early starts are among the most common trips we are booked for. Arrange it in advance and the car is held for your pickup time.

Do you offer a veterans discount?

Yes. Veterans and serving military get 10% off the trip fare on every ride, not just the first one. Tick the box on the booking form and it comes off automatically, with no code and nothing to prove to us. Your first ride is 15% off, which is worth more, so on that trip you get the 15% instead: only one discount applies to a trip and you always get the larger one.

Can I book a regular ride for repeat appointments?

Yes. Call and we will set up the repeat rather than starting from scratch each time, with the same driver on each trip.

Do you take wheelchairs or medical equipment?

No. It is a sedan with no lift or ramp, we carry no medical equipment and we provide no care. A cane or a folding walker is fine.

Arranging a ride for someone else?

Call and we will sort out the details, the timing and the price on the phone.
